Think Before You Trash: Rental Etiquette Made Easy

What NOT to Do in a Vacation Rental: Guest Etiquette 101

Staying in a vacation rental is an amazing way to enjoy more space, comfort, and privacy—especially in sunny Central Florida. But unlike hotels, vacation homes come with a few unspoken rules. Whether you’re a first-time renter or a seasoned traveler, following basic guest etiquette not only ensures a smoother stay—it also helps keep the property in top shape for future guests.

At Orlando Rent a Villa by Eagle Management, we want every guest to feel at home, and every homeowner to feel confident in opening their doors. So here’s a friendly guide to what NOT to do in your vacation rental

1. Don’t Treat It Like a Hotel Room

Remember, you’re staying in someone’s home—not a generic hotel. Treat the furniture, décor, and appliances with care and respect. No towel forts, no food on the couch, and definitely no jumping on the beds.

2. Don’t Ignore House Rules

Every rental has its own set of rules, from quiet hours to pool safety guidelines. Read the welcome book or house manual and follow the rules—it keeps everyone happy and avoids surprises.

3. Don’t Leave a Mess

While you don’t need to deep clean, basic tidiness is appreciated. Throw out your trash, put used towels in the laundry room, and don’t leave piles of dirty dishes behind. Our cleaning crews thank you!

4. Don’t Invite Extra Guests

Only registered guests should stay in the home. Inviting over extra friends or hosting a party without permission is a big no-no—and could violate the terms of your rental agreement.

5. Don’t Forget to Lock Up

Safety matters. Always lock doors and windows when you leave the house and follow any security procedures provided in your welcome materials.

6. Don’t Misuse Amenities

Whether it’s the hot tub, pool heater, or grill—follow the usage instructions. Turning things on and off improperly or leaving equipment running too long can lead to damage or extra charges.

7. Don’t Sneak in a Pet

Unless your rental is specifically labeled as pet-friendly, don’t bring along your furry friend. If you’d like a pet-friendly option, we have plenty of great homes that welcome four-legged guests!

8. Don’t Forget It’s a Shared Community

Many vacation rentals are in resort neighborhoods. Be mindful of your noise level, parking, and community rules—just like you would at home.
