August 15th marks National Relaxation Day. Believe it or not,  the day was founded by a fourth grader in Clio, Michigan in 1985. It’s a day to focus on self care and taking a moment to just relax. The national day is so important, because we live in a fast-paced world. The average American’s lifestyle is so hectic, and is non-stop. According to the U.S. Travel Association, U.S. workers took an average of 17.2 vacation days in 2017. That may sound like a lot but it’s nearly half the vacation time that workers in other countries enjoy.

It’s imperative to take the time to recuperate and rejuvenate our exhausted minds and bodies. This can also help prevent many health problems. Most doctors will agree that finding ways to relax will reduce stress, and improve overall health. Below are a few ways to spend your day:

  • Go for a swim
  • Spa Day
  • Enjoy a Comedy Show
  • Enjoy a glass of wine
  • Lunch with friends
  • A picnic
  • Fishing Trip
  • Quick Getaway
  • Shopping
  • Pampering yourself
  • Listening to Music
